Located in the north of the island, not far from the airport, you will find the Hato Caves in Curaçao. These are ancient limestone caves formed over many centuries from limestone and coral. While the island was originally underwater many, many years ago, it is now easily accessible, inhabited, and popular with tourists due to the lowering of the sea level. What makes the Hato Caves in Curaçao unique?
As is typical for limestone caves, you will find the typical stalactites and stalagmites in the Hato Caves. Particularly impressive is the so-called Madonna – an extraordinary rock formation reminiscent of the famous Virgin Mary figure. You can also discover ancient wall paintings, different water pools, and numerous bats in the Hato Caves.
